British number one Andy Murray has accepted a wild card to compete in next week’s Farmers Classic in Los Angeles. The Scotsman will be seeded number one for the hardcourt event – his first tournament since Wimbledon – following the withdrawal of world number two Novak Djokovic for personal reasons. “We were looking forward to Novak making his debut in LA, but we’re very fortunate that Andy Murray, another top five player will be able to join us,” said tournament director Bob Kramer.
It will be the first time world number four Murray has played in Los Angeles, although the 23-year-old has tasted success in California previously after tournament victories in San Jose in 2006 and 2007.
Murray reached the last four at Wimbledon but fell to eventual champion Rafael Nadal.
